Lapis heart locket.

------------

Augh @_@ This one was quite difficult, thanks to the lapis stone, which (while making up for all the trouble and its rather ridiculous price-tag with its inherent beauty) was neither a convenient shape, nor a cabochon. The former problem wasn't too bad, countered with judicious hammering of wires. The latter however, required the creation of a more cage-like locket body... it worked out well, but I wouldn't look forward to doing another one of these.

Anyway, look at that heart! It's the nicest lapis heart I've ever had or even seen. I decided, to balance the intense blue of the focal, I had to put in lots of lapis beads into the chain, which refused to not be made (I tried not to. I attempted a pre-made chain, and shot down that idea several inches away from the locket; and I attempted a viking knit chain, which now sits in front of me unused and abandoned.). All in all, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out in the end, however.

Nice job! Puffed heart shapes are difficult to work with, I struggled with my piece "Chaotic Love" which has a rather large focal. It kept shifting in the wire frame and rotating.

I love lapis in gold, the metallic inclusions so perfectly match the gold wire. I have to ditto :iconmagpie-poet: on the show off, the heart really is over the top. I really like the braided (twisted?) wire at the bottom of the heart. Intended or not, the poetry of that is pretty profound. I totally get the futile avoidance of the chain, what must be done, must. Every time I try to ignore the piece's demand for something, I lose. May be your best yet.
